At Mother's Day Out yesterday they had Santa Claus. So we tried to have our picture made with him to say we did. We aren't really doing the Santa thing but took the picture for my mother. :) Anyway Bailey didn't want to have her picture made with him and I finally got her to stand next to the tree. And Jesse was not thrilled to be in Santa's lap as you can tell. I have a similar photo as a child when I was sitting on Santa's lap.
Today we had a Christmas party for the people Billy work with. We just had a small lunch but it was fun for me to get to know them better. Billy appreciates very much the people he works with and is thankful he has such a wonderful group to keep him company in the office. In the picture are: Mrs. Karen, Billy, Candice (student worker), Mrs. Pam and Dr. Travers (Billy's boss).
Remember the little town from the movie "Steel Magnolias?" This little town in LA, Natchitoches, has a Christmas festival every year. They put lots of light along the river front and have a fireworks display twice a week. It is a quaint little town and lots of people drive up to see it each year. KB and I took the kids this past Saturday. Bailey was a little scared of the booms from the fireworks at first but liked all the purple ones. Purple is her favorite color right now! Jesse watched but didn't seem to care too much. Anyway we had a good time!
Bailey and I have been in the kitchen baking up all kinds of stuff! She loves to help me and thinks she's big enough to do anything I do! She loved making gingerbread cookies and sugar cookies especially when she got to put on the sprinkles. My mom got us matching aprons which are really cute and when Bailey sees me put mine on she has to put hers on too! I hope she always loves baking and cooking with me! I just have to remember that it's ok if the kitchen is a little messier after we do it! and if we are a little messier!
we moved back to the states. Some days it seems like we've been back much longer some days much shorter and some days it seems like we are still going back. We miss all our friends and family in Turkey. But we also enjoy seeing all our friends and family here in the states. Wow, can't believe it's been a year.
Yes that's right. This morning when I took the kids out we wore short sleeves cause the temperature was 73 degrees and very humid! But we just went outside dressed the same way but quickly had to come in and put our coats on! We only stayed outside about 30 min cause it is 47 degrees. Now I know some of you up north are colder than that right now but when the temp drops almost 30 degrees in five hours that's pretty ridiculous! But this is an almost everyday occurrence. Well usually one day it is 40 and the next 70 but not both in one day!
Well Jesse may not be walking but he is climbing! He doesn't climb everywhere but if it's his size then he is up on it like the bottom of this little table. I can only imagine in a few months what else he will be climbing on!
Well it is finally getting cold enough to wear a hat outside well some days anyway. Bailey loves wearing her hat so much so that she doesn't even want to take it off to go to bed! And she likes wearing her purple jacket as well. She wouldn't take it off today until she took a nap. Jesse doesn't mind wearing his either and loves to go outside!
Friday night Billy and I were surprised by the Bryd's with some real beyaz peynir (made by Ulker) and simit! It was so good. They didn't bring it from Turkey but ordered from tulumba.com. Did I say it was really good?! We have both missed that good ole' salty cheese! The simit wasn't exactly but it did the trick. It was a sweet surprise and the perfect Christmas present! Thanks Scott and Rebecca!
Tonight for family night we made a gingerbread house. I bought a kit so I didn't actually make the house part but we do intend to make gingerbread cookies later. Anyway, we had a great time. Bailey was so excited. She loved putting the purple candy on the house. Jesse also wanted to get in on the action but that would have been a small disaster. Billy and I really enjoyed it and thought this would be fun to do by ourselves! We also had our pizza as Bailey helped with the dough, pepperoni and her favorite - putting on the cheese!
Well the circus came to town this week but it was only a one ring circus but hey will take it! I only took Bailey because I didn't think Jesse could sit through it. Bailey did pretty good the first hour but got a little restless the second act. Even though it was a small circus it was still pretty good and they did have elephants and tigers. I was a little disappointed that none of the clowns had those big red noses or funny hair like they use to when I was a kid. Although they were selling the red clown noses for $5. That was the cheapest souvenir you could buy. The next toy jumped up to $16 for a flash light thingy! Poor Bailey didn't get any souvenirs. If she wants one next year I guess some grandparents better send us some money. :) Anyway, she loved it and said her favorite were the elephants. We went with KB and I think, no, I know KB was more excited than any of us to go to the circus!
how do you like the $10 hat? a little bit of cotton candy came with it!
The past week Jesse has started to dance. It's more like moving your head. He kind of looks like Stevie Wonder. It's pretty cute. I also started feeding him peanut butter although the doctor said wait until he's two! What are you supposed to feed a kid until he's two?! Well he's not allergic to peanuts thank goodness so we are safe to continue to feed him peanut butter. But only peanut butter sandwiches because he didn't like it when I put the jelly on it. Just like his momma.
