A cook in the making

Bailey loves to help me cook or bake as we happen to be doing today. She likes to put the ingredients in the bowl and stir it. I try to keep the mess down but it's not easy. This day we made sugar cookies. My sister had gotten Bailey a little cook book with ABC cookie cutters for her birthday. Well we tried to make the ABC's but the dough kept getting stuck in the cutter so we just made some stars and butterflies. She took one bite and didn't eat anymore. She doesn't really have a sweet tooth unless it's chocolate. Anyway I know she will be a great cook some day! And don't you just love that little smile?! It cracks me up!

A Birthday Party

Saturday Bailey and Jesse went to their cousins, Erin and Avery, birthday party. The twins turned 4 and had a party at Jump -N- Jive. This is a place where they have the big blow up jumpy things and slides. Bailey loved it. I even got to do the big slide with her because she had to be with an adult. If you come and visit us we will take you to Jump -N- Jive!

Tummy Time

Well it seems Jesse has finally come to like being on his tummy. Up until now he has hated it. When I went to check on him the other day during his nap he was laying on his belly. Then later he was playing in his room and I looked in on him and he was on his tummy again - spinning around and scooting backwards. I couldn't believe it because this child has hated being on his belly. Oh well it won't be long before he is mobile! Not sure I'm ready for that yet!

New Traditions

While we were in Turkey the last couple of years we ate Chinese food for lunch every Sunday. Well we might have taken a break every now and then but for the most part we had it every Sunday. But since coming to the states we have changed that tradition and are now eating Popeye's chicken every Sunday. Bailey gets so excited after church. She can't wait to get home and eat chicken! She usually eats two pieces - a wing and a leg. She actually likes the skin the best but then again who doesn't?!

Splish Splash

We have been giving them a bath together for quite sometime because it's easier to kill two birds with one stone. But since Jesse is sitting up so well now he has given up his little seat and sits in the tub like a big boy. They both love to splash. I get wet every time.

Trying something new

This week Jesse tried his first teething biscuit. He liked it. Not sure I want to give him another one because it was so messy. I think I need to take his clothes off first before he tries another one.

He looks like he's saying, "What do I have something on my face?"

8 months

Well Jesse turned 8 months a couple of weeks ago so I'm alittle behind. But here are few pictures that were taken a few days before he turned 8 months. He is getting to be quite the big boy. He isn't crawling and showing no signs that he wants to but he loves to stand (with someone holding him), so I think he will walk before he crawls.

While rolling around playing he ended up underneath the bed.

Missing Turkey

I have had this post in my head for a while but had not been able to write it down. So I finally decided just to go ahead and do it. We've been in the states for almost 7 months now but sometimes it seems much longer. And it is still hard to believe sometimes that we aren't going back to live. So here are a few things that I am missing...(no particular order)

1. Friends...both Turkish and expats.
2. Walking...we walked as a part of everyday life not just for excercise. I miss walking to the bakkal or pazaar.
3. Beyaz Peynir...I would love to have some beyaz peynir and tomatoes right now with green olives!
4. Walking along the Bosphorus.
5. Ordering groceries online and having them delivered to my house.
6. Hope International.
7. Sunday nights with the gang! and beating everyone at Mexican train! ;)
8. Iskender and Cheese Pide.
9. Seeing the view of the city and the Bosphorus from my living room window.
10. Saying "Hos Geldin" as people come in the door or saying "Afiyet Olsun" as people begin to eat.
11. Going to the pazaar for fresh fruit. I especially miss the cherries this time of year! and I miss the cheap stuff I could buy - clothes, yufka, purses, etc.
12. Riding on hot, over crowded buses for over an hour. Just kidding! I don't miss that!

Vacation

Last week we went to the beach with Billy's family. And when I say family I mean all of Billy's family - parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins! I'm not sure the exact number but at one point they counted over 100+ people! We had a good time at the beach and the kids loved it. Well they loved it after they were feeling well. The second day Bailey had a fever in the afternoon. I gave her some medicine so by dinner she was fine until we got our food she took one bite and started throwing up at the table! Needless to say we left immediately and ate our food back at the condo. The next day she was fine. Jesse had some mosquito bites that for some reason started to blister so he sayted inside 95% of our trip. But he did go to the beach on the last day and wasn't too sure about the water but he did enjoy playing in the sand. Bailey loved the pool and swimming. She liked playing in the sand and finally liked getting into the ocean.

Bailey got a hold of my camera one day and I didn't know it until I was downloading my pictures so now we have several pictures of her shirt and face.
