Happy Mardi Gras!

The other night we had a little Mardi Gras celebration with a few of my friends. Billy made a wonderful crawfish etouffee and I made a cream cheese and raspberry King cake. It was yummy! I would love to be in New Orleans right now at a parade! I know I'm one of those crazy people who love New Orleans and loves Mardi Gras! "Throw me somethin' mister!"

You learn something new every day in America

I mean every day you learn something new! Today I was going to make cornbread. I'm at my mom's house and so I checked to make sure she had all the ingredients and she did. But when I got out the cornmeal it said "cornmeal mix." What the heck is this? Apparently it has the right amount of cornmeal, flour and baking powder to make cornbread. So I didn't even need my cookbooks! America may not have chicken cut into pieces but they do have cornmeal mix!

Things about America...

We've been here a little over a month and I've come to realize that America has a lot but not everything. I was making a chicken pot pie the other day when I noticed this. I went to the store to buy chicken nuggets (pieces, parca), and they don't have them. I couldn't believe it! Even in Turkey I could buy fresh chicken already cut into pieces! And then they didn't have frozen peas, carrots, and potatoes all mixed together. They had peas and carrots mixed with everything else but not potatoes! I thought cookinig here would be easier but not this day! They have chicken strips but why not chicken nuggets! Billy said I was having a cultural moment that day!

I've also missed my yemeksepti. I've cooked quite a bit but when I'm lazy and we want something to eat the only thing to order (to deliver) is pizza. At least we can get that! And I also miss ordering my groceries online and having them delivered. It seems every other day we are running to the store to get something and it would be nice if we could have it delivered!

But I have enjoyed the food. The variety is really nice! It is hard to make a decision sometimes! and going to the grocery store can be very overwhelming! I can't even begin to describe it.

ok well that's it for now. I'm sure I'll have more to say about America later.

Just Hanging Out

This is what we do all day...hang out.
